Ipswich Town have secured the services of Darragh McCann, a 16-year-old left-back from Glentoran and a Northern Ireland U16 international. McCann has inked a three-year contract with the Blues following his contribution to Glentoran’s NIFL Academy League triumph last season.

McCann caught Ipswich Town’s attention during his national team’s run to the final of the Victory Shield, where Northern Ireland ultimately fell 3-1 to the Republic of Ireland last November. Having been part of Glentoran’s Academy since he was 10 years old, McCann is known for his proficiency in free-kicks and has also showcased his skills in midfield.
Initially, McCann will join Ipswich Town’s U18 squad for the upcoming 2024/25 season. Expressing his enthusiasm about joining the club, McCann stated, “I can’t wait to begin pre-season, start the season, and get on the pitch. I’m really looking forward to it.”
McCann marks the academy’s third signing of the summer, following Leon Elliott and Abube Onuchukwu, who joined from Crystal Palace and Aston Villa respectively.
