Ty Kubicek, a former backup offensive lineman for the Oklahoma Sooners, has announced his decision to continue his football career at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas.
“Honored and excited to commit to (Harding) to help win another national championship,” Kubicek shared on social media.
The California native entered the NCAA transfer portal on Monday and became the first player from the Sooners’ 2024 roster to officially announce a new destination. Kubicek initially joined Oklahoma as a preferred walk-on, signing with Brent Venables’ squad on December 19, 2022, after receiving the offer in November of the same year.
A 2-star recruit from Capital Christian High School in Sacramento, Kubicek was rated as the No. 241 interior offensive lineman in the country and the No. 495 recruit in California by 247 Sports. Standing at 6-foot-3 and 277 pounds at the time of his signing, Kubicek opted for the Sooners over scholarship offers from smaller programs like Lewis & Clark State, Linfield College, Pacific, and Southern Oregon.
During his two seasons with Oklahoma, Kubicek served as a versatile member of the scout team and regularly traveled with the team, though he did not appear in a game. By the time of his transfer, Kubicek had grown to 290 pounds, further enhancing his frame for offensive line play.
Kubicek now joins a Harding University program with a winning pedigree. The Bisons claimed the Division II National Championship in 2023 with a perfect 15-0 season, capping it off with a dominant 38-7 victory over the Colorado School of Mines. This past season, Harding went 12-1 before being eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Division II playoffs.
