Notre Dame Lands Major Commitment to Start Pivotal Recruiting Weekend

Notre Dame’s recruiting surge continued from April into May with a verbal commitment from four-star linebacker Jakobe Clapper from Cincinnati’s St. Xavier High School on Friday. This commitment may be the first of several for the Irish this weekend.

Clapper, standing at 6-1 and 215 pounds, is ranked as the No. 22 linebacker prospect in the 2026 class by 247Sports. He chose Notre Dame over more than 20 scholarship offers, including from top programs like Oregon (his other finalist), Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State. His pledge marks the 13th commitment for Notre Dame’s 2026 class and the second at linebacker, joining Thomas Davis Jr.

Clapper’s commitment is a big win for Notre Dame, and the weekend could get even brighter. Texas running back Javian Osborne, ranked as the nation’s sixth-best running back and a top-100 overall prospect by 247Sports, will announce his college decision on Saturday. Notre Dame is a finalist alongside Michigan. Securing Osborne after already landing Clapper would turn a strong weekend into an outstanding one for the Fighting Irish.
