Michigan State is bolstering its secondary depth via the transfer portal, with East Carolina defensive back Dontavius Nash announcing his commitment to the Spartans on social media Tuesday. A former four-star recruit who started at North Carolina, Nash has 60 tackles and two interceptions across 33 games.
He joins fellow defensive back transfers Anthony Pinnace (JUCO All-American) and Tracy Revels (Bowling Green) as the third secondary addition this spring.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound North Carolina native played 10 games over two seasons at UNC before transferring to East Carolina in 2023, where he recorded a career-high 34 tackles, a pick-six, and later 24 tackles with another interception and four pass break-ups.
Michigan State, which retains starting safeties Nikai Martinez and Malik Spencer, is reshaping its secondary this offseason. Nash marks the sixth scholarship transfer for the Spartans this spring, alongside Pinnace, Revels, EDGE defenders Isaac Smith (Texas Tech) and Cam Williams (Georgia State), and tight end Kai Rios (Indiana State).
