Vikings Predicted to Trade Breakout WR After Drafting His Potential Replacement

The Minnesota Vikings‘ wide receiver corps might see some changes this year.

While Justin Jefferson will remain the focal point of the offense, there are uncertainties surrounding the rest of the group.

Jordan Addison, another first-round pick, is currently facing DUI charges in California, which could result in a suspension. This has led the Vikings to draft Maryland receiver Tai Felton, who has the potential to eventually take Addison’s place. If Addison is indeed suspended, Felton could see some early action.

However, there is another receiver who might be more at risk than Addison.

Jalen Nailor

On May 2, Pro Football Network named Jalen Nailor as a potential trade candidate for the Vikings. Nailor, a former sixth-round pick, is entering the final year of his rookie contract and has mostly played on the outside, while Jefferson has primarily occupied the slot in three-receiver sets.

Last season, Nailor stepped up in Weeks 2 and 3 when Addison was injured, playing over 85% of the snaps in those games and catching six passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns. This strong showing hinted at a potential breakout for Nailor, who finished the season with 414 yards and six touchdowns, despite dealing with injuries early in his career.

That said, Nailor’s consistency as the No. 3 receiver was lacking, as he caught one or fewer passes in eight games. The No. 3 receiver spot is likely the fifth priority in the Vikings’ offense, with T.J. Hockenson and Aaron Jones playing significant roles in the passing game. There is a possibility that Nailor could thrive in a larger role elsewhere, potentially increasing his trade value beyond his sixth-round draft status.

While it’s unlikely that Nailor would be traded before the season begins, if Felton proves he’s capable of stepping in, Nailor could be moved at the October trade deadline to help the Vikings recoup draft capital, especially if they don’t plan to re-sign him next offseason.
