Miami Dolphins Release Four Veterans, Clear Space for Incoming Rookies.

The Miami Dolphins have released four veteran players in a move that appears aimed at making room for incoming rookies ahead of this weekend’s rookie minicamp. Among those released is long snapper Blake Ferguson, a former seventh-round pick who played 72 games over five seasons. Ferguson missed the latter half of the 2024 season due to a medical issue, and the team is expected to either re-sign him or find a new long snapper. Alabama undrafted rookie Kneeland Hibbett is likely to be signed on Friday.
Also released were:
- Neil Farrell, a defensive tackle re-signed earlier this offseason but made expendable after the team drafted Kenneth Grant, Jordan Phillips, and Zeek Biggers.
- Chasen Hines, a 2022 sixth-round offensive lineman who spent two seasons on Miami’s practice squad without playing in a game.
- Ryan Cooper Jr., a young cornerback claimed off waivers from Seattle in February.
These roster moves reflect Miami’s shift toward building a younger, more physical team, especially in the trenches. Alongside the recent draft additions, the Dolphins plan to sign several undrafted rookies pending physicals, including UCF corner Brandon “BJ” Adams, Ole Miss safety John Saunders, and offensive linemen Addison West and Josh Priebe.
The competition in the secondary and on the offensive line will be fierce, with multiple young and unproven players battling for limited spots. With Pro Bowl corner Jalen Ramsey expected to be traded after June 1, Miami’s defensive backfield is undergoing a major transformation.
The team will also evaluate several tryout players during rookie camp, a process that typically results in at least one additional signing.
