The Gophers women’s hockey team received a significant boost on Wednesday with the announcement that All-American forward Abbey Murphy will return for the 2025–26 season.

“We are ecstatic that Murph has chosen to come back,” head coach Brad Frost said in a release. “She is a staple within our Gopher program and women’s hockey worldwide. Our team and college hockey will be better with her in it.”

Next season will mark Murphy’s fifth in a Gophers uniform, made possible by her Olympic redshirt from the 2021–22 season—when she earned a silver medal with Team USA at the Beijing Olympics—and an additional year of eligibility granted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over 140 career games, Murphy has racked up 195 points, ranking third among active NCAA players. Her 103 career goals place her sixth all-time in Gophers history, and she’s added 92 assists to round out an outstanding collegiate career.

“I’m beyond excited to announce I will be coming back for my final year of college hockey,” Murphy said in a statement. “I am pumped for another go around with this team. It’s been a great ride but we’re not done yet. Go Gophers!”

Coming off a stellar season in which she was a top-10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, tallying 65 points (33 goals, 32 assists) in 42 games, Murphy is set to be one of the premier players in college hockey once again next year.
