Jets Land Top Alabama Talent in NFL Draft Pick

Jets May Have Drafted a Hidden Gem in Alabama DB Malachi Moore

The New York Jets already had a strong pass defense in 2024, ranking top five in several key categories. But with four veteran defensive backs leaving this offseason, the team needed fresh talent in the secondary.

To reload, the Jets signed Andre Cisco (safety) and Brandon Stephens (cornerback) in free agency. They also drafted Azareye’h Thomas from Florida State and Malachi Moore, a defensive back from Alabama. While Cisco and Stephens are expected to start, Moore is quickly emerging as a potential steal of the draft.

Moore, a versatile defender, started five years at Alabama and logged over 3,000 snaps. His experience, maturity, and versatility are already showing at rookie minicamp, where he’s made a strong early impression.

In college, Moore primarily played as a slot corner but eventually shifted into more of a safety role. That adaptability could allow him to earn playing time quickly in several spots — either as a safety competing with Tony Adams, or as a nickel/dime defender rotating with Michael Carter II and Isaiah Oliver.

With both Adams and Oliver on short, low-cost deals, Moore has a real chance to climb the depth chart and become a regular contributor. And many believe he’s already outperforming expectations, making his fall to the fourth round even more surprising.

Jets fans should be excited — Moore is saying the right things, working hard, and adapting quickly to NFL coaching. If his strong start continues, New York may have found an impact defender for years to come
