East Carolina bolstered a critical position through the transfer portal this spring, securing a commitment from Presbyterian transfer center Dru McClough. The 6-foot-3, 290-pound redshirt freshman visited ECU earlier this week, received an offer, and committed to the Pirates on Sunday.
McClough started 11 of 12 games for Presbyterian in 2024, playing 654 offensive snaps. He announced on Twitter that he has three years of eligibility left. He also held offers from Southern Miss, UNLV, and several FCS programs.
At ECU, McClough is expected to vie for the starting center role, especially after projected starter Karson Jones suffered a potentially season-ending knee injury during spring practice. The Pirates also worked senior Darius Bell and junior Bryce Weaver at center late in the spring, and they have Panda Askew, who brings prior center experience from Charlotte.
Dru McClough, a Maiden, N.C. native, joined Presbyterian as part of their 2022 recruiting class before transferring to East Carolina. His commitment marks ECU’s third offensive line addition from the transfer portal this offseason, alongside Maryland transfer Kyle Long and Newberry College’s Cooper Trnavsky, both of whom enrolled in the winter and took part in spring practice. The Pirates also retain returning starters Emmanuel Poku and Jimarion McCrimon on the offensive line. Offensive line coach Matt Mattox, in his second year with ECU, works under second-year coordinator John David Baker.
ECU has now secured six confirmed transfers this spring: Old Dominion cornerback Rasheed Reason, Duke punter Ryan Leavy, New Hampshire kicker Nick Mazzie, Rice defensive back Jonathan Jean, quarterback Mike Wright, and McClough.
