
Northwestern QB Mike Wright Transfers to East Carolina for 2025 Season

East Carolina has added another major piece to its quarterback room for the 2025 season, landing Northwestern transfer Mike Wright, per On3.
Wright, who spent the 2024 season at Northwestern, previously played at Mississippi State and Vanderbilt. Originally from Atlanta, he enters his sixth college season with a wealth of experience and dual-threat capabilities.
He began his career at Vanderbilt, starting 11 of 26 games over three years and tallying 2,000+ passing yards, 905 rushing yards, 21 passing touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and 11 rushing scores. In 2023, Wright transferred to Mississippi State, where he played in all 12 games with three starts, posting 324 rushing yards and three scores on the ground, alongside 453 passing yards and three touchdowns. He also competed on the Bulldogs’ indoor track team, running a 22.36 in the 200-meter dash.
In 2024, Wright saw limited action at Northwestern, starting two of three appearances. He threw for 354 yards and rushed for 84 more, adding a rushing touchdown. The Wildcats listed him at 6-foot-4, 195 pounds.
At ECU, Wright will compete alongside Michigan State transfer Katin Houser, who threw for over 2,000 yards and 18 touchdowns last season.
The Pirates kick off their 2025 campaign on Thursday, August 28, against NC State. It will be their first full season under head coach Blake Harrell, who led the team to five wins in their final six games of 2024, including a Military Bowl victory over NC State.
