Mavericks Secure $100 Million Blazers Guard in Three-Team Trade Proposal with Lakers

The Dallas Mavericks’ offseason just got a lot more promising. After the Draft lottery, the Mavericks secured the first overall pick for the 2025 NBA Draft, giving them a shot at selecting Cooper Flagg if they choose.NBA
This potential addition, combined with a healthy roster of Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, Cooper Flagg, Anthony Davis, and Dereck Lively II, could make for a powerful starting lineup. However, this talent-heavy squad will come with a hefty price tag, and the Mavericks may need to consolidate assets while also accommodating Irving, who’s recovering from ACL surgery in March.
Sam Quinn of CBS Sports has proposed an ambitious three-team trade involving the Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Portland Trail Blazers. Here are the details of the proposed deal:
- Mavericks receive: Anfernee Simons
- Lakers receive: Daniel Gafford
- Trail Blazers receive: Maxi Kleber, Caleb Martin, Dalton Knecht, Dwight Powell, Lakers’ unprotected first-round picks (2029, 2031), and 2030 swap rights with the Lakers
This trade could save the Mavericks around $2 million, but they’d need to fill additional roster spots. Simons would be a good fit, able to play both on- and off-ball once Irving returns.
On the other hand, the Trail Blazers would gain significant draft capital and an intriguing prospect in Dalton Knecht. However, questions arise as to why the Blazers would receive such a large return — especially after the Mavericks only received one first-round pick in the Luka Dončić trade. The presence of some less-than-ideal contracts, like Maxi Kleber and Caleb Martin, may explain why Portland would need additional picks to balance things out.
