Over the past year and a half, the Philadelphia Phillies have expressed interest in Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. However, a report from USA Today’s Bob Nightengale indicated that the New York Mets are also interested, raising doubts about whether the Phillies can secure him.
Despite Nightengale’s report, which remains accurate, Jon Heyman of the New York Post stated during a Bleacher Report live show that the Mets have not recently inquired about Robert.
Robert is currently struggling at the plate, and there are no active discussions between him and the Mets.
Heyman noted, “There’s a rumor that the Mets are interested [in Robert Jr.]. I’ll clarify: The Mets have looked into Luis Robert in the past… But right now, with him hitting .179, there’s nothing heating up with Luis Robert. I didn’t even need to call to know that, but I did, and I was told there’s nothing happening with him.”

Jon Heyman further commented, “Luis Robert needs to improve his performance before trade talks gain traction. Right now, I don’t see a trade happening for him. At the trade deadline, if he can push his OPS above .700, things could change. The Mets have shown interest before, and the White Sox are keeping an eye on them, more than the Mets are actively pursuing Robert. I believe the Mets are comfortable with his center-field defense.”
To acquire Robert, the Phillies would need to offer the White Sox a compelling trade package at the deadline.
The Mets, in need of an outfielder, might be more inclined to make a move than the Phillies.
Until a deal materializes, the Phillies still have a chance to pursue Robert.
