Dan Lanning Gets Troubling Update on 5-star Commit Ahead of 2025 Season

Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning, known for his recruiting prowess, is currently facing some challenges on the trail in Eugene.

This spring, the Ducks missed out on two key targets—5-star quarterback Jared Curtis and 5-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell—both of whom were once considered likely Oregon commits. Now, there’s more cause for concern surrounding 5-star edge rusher Richard Wesley, who pledged to the Ducks earlier this month.

Despite his commitment, Wesley—the No. 14 prospect in the 2026 class—announced Monday that he plans to take several official visits over the summer and fall. His first stop will be Oregon on June 6, followed by Texas on June 20. Most worrisome for Oregon, however, is Wesley’s scheduled visit to Ohio State on August 30, the same weekend the Buckeyes face the Longhorns in Columbus. He also intends to visit Texas A\&M, though that date has not yet been determined.

When Wesley committed on May 10, reports surfaced suggesting his family was unaware of his decision, and that NIL negotiations between him and Oregon still needed work. With multiple visits now lined up, it’s clear that the Ducks face stiff competition and will need to stay aggressive in their pursuit if they hope to keep Wesley in the fold through signing day.
