Dolphins Reshape Secondary: Sign Ryan Cooper Jr., Place Jason Maitre on IR

The Miami Dolphins made a pair of roster changes at cornerback on Monday — though not involving the name most fans have been watching closely. Despite weeks of speculation, Jalen Ramsey remains with the team, at least for now.
Instead, cornerback Jason Maitre was placed on injured reserve, and to fill the opening, the Dolphins signed 23-year-old defensive back Ryan Cooper Jr., who returns to Miami after a brief stint with the team earlier this year.
Cooper entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2024, initially joining the Baltimore Ravens. He spent most of the season on their practice squad, but did appear in one regular-season game.
Maitre also joined the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in May 2024, though he was released before the season began. He re-signed in December and spent the final month of the season on the practice squad.
With Miami’s defensive backfield undergoing significant changes, including a reshaped safety unit and an expected post–June 1st trade involving Jalen Ramsey (likely for cap-related reasons), the team’s secondary remains in flux.
Stay tuned for continued updates throughout the offseason on all things Miami Dolphins.
