One of the biggest stories each college football offseason is which schools are assembling the top recruiting classes — and 2026 is shaping up to be no different.

Many highly ranked prospects in the class of 2026 have already committed, but one major name still undecided is linebacker Xavier Griffin from Gainesville, Georgia. That decision, however, is right around the corner. According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Griffin is set to announce his college choice on June 29, choosing between four powerhouse programs: Alabama, Texas, Ohio State, and Florida State.

Each school would love to add Griffin to its roster, but only one will secure his commitment. On3 recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong currently projects Griffin to choose an SEC powerhouse — the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Griffin is a high-priority target in this cycle. According to the On3 Industry Rankings, he’s a five-star recruit, ranked as the No. 2 linebacker in the nation, the No. 3 overall prospect in Georgia, and No. 28 nationally.

His on-field production backs up the hype. Over three varsity seasons at Gainesville High School, Griffin played in 22 games, tallying 97 total tackles, 33 tackles for loss, 15 sacks, and three forced fumbles — showing his impact as a disruptive defensive force.

If he commits to Alabama, Griffin would be a major addition to Kalen DeBoer’s 2026 recruiting class, which already includes five commitments and is currently ranked No. 4 in the SEC and No. 8 nationally by On3.

He would join an impressive group headlined by five-star cornerback Jorden Edmonds, as well as four-star edge rusher Jamarion Matthews and four-star cornerback Zyan Gibson — giving Alabama fans even more to be excited about heading into the future.
