Huskers Debut Bold New Design for Tom Osborne Field; Fans React on Social Media

Nebraska Athletics unveiled a dramatic redesign for Tom Osborne Field at Memorial Stadium, putting a strong emphasis on the school’s iconic red. On Wednesday morning, Huskers Athletic Director Troy Dannen shared images of the revamped field on social media — without any caption — sparking immediate fan reaction online.
The updated design features solid red end zones with “NEBRASKA” and “HUSKERS” spelled out in bold white letters, a noticeable change from the previous look, which used red lettering outlined in white on green turf. The most eye-catching update? The red now extends beyond the end zones, wrapping around the field’s edge — a change that has sparked concern among some fans who worry it may lead to confusion on plays near the goal line.
Another new element includes both sidelines now painted black. While visually striking, some observers noted that the dark color could attract excessive heat, especially for teams on the visiting side.
This reveal comes roughly a month after Dannen initially posted photos of the new turf being installed at Memorial Stadium.
Despite some debate, the overall fan response was largely positive. Many expressed excitement over the updated aesthetic, with several noting that a field refresh had been long overdue. Others can’t wait to see it live when the team returns home.
The Huskers will open the 2025 season on August 28 against Cincinnati in Kansas City. Their home opener at Memorial Stadium is scheduled for September 6, when they face Akron.
