Pirates Veteran and Two-Time All-Star Josh Harrison Announces Retirement

Josh Harrison, a two-time MLB All-Star, officially announced his retirement from baseball on Saturday—marking 14 years to the day since his major league debut.
The 37-year-old has not appeared in a major league game since July 30, 2023. Over the course of his 13-season career, Harrison played for six MLB teams: the Pittsburgh Pirates (2011–18), Detroit Tigers (2019), Washington Nationals (2020–21), Oakland Athletics (2021), Chicago White Sox (2022), and Philadelphia Phillies (2023).
In a heartfelt post on social media, Harrison expressed gratitude to each team he represented:
“Thank you to the Pirates, Tigers, Nationals, Athletics, White Sox, and the Phillies for all letting me represent your cities. I wore each and every one of those jerseys with pride. Each place holds a special place in my heart for different reasons. I’ll be sure to take a piece of each city with me everywhere I go.”
Harrison earned All-Star selections in 2014 and 2017, finishing his career with a .270 batting average, 73 home runs, and 388 RBIs across 1,208 games. Known for his versatility, he played both infield and outfield positions and participated in four playoff games with the Pirates.
He also took a moment to thank the game itself for its impact on his life:
“To the game of baseball—for helping shape me, humble me, and giving me a platform to grow not just as a player, but as a man. I never set out to prove others wrong—only to prove myself right. To the future generation: don’t let others’ expectations limit you. Put in the work and go earn what you deserve.”
Harrison departs the game with respect from fans and peers alike, remembered as a passionate and consistent presence on and off the field.
