The New York Jets remain one key offensive weapon short of being a legitimate playoff contender.
With wide receiver Garrett Wilson, running back Breece Hall, and rookie tight end Mason Taylor, the Jets have intriguing talent at several positions. However, fifth-year quarterback Justin Fields—looking to prove he can be a reliable starter—could use another established playmaker.
One NFL analyst believes the Jets might find that missing piece through a trade with the reigning Super Bowl champs. On Tuesday, Brandon Austin of Pro Football Network suggested that Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert, who is in the final year of his contract, could be a strong trade target for the Jets during the season. “New York addressed the tight end position by drafting LSU’s Mason Taylor and signing Stone Smartt in free agency,” Austin noted. “But adding a proven veteran like Goedert would elevate the unit and give Fields another reliable target.” The Eagles have a Super Bowl-ready roster and are aiming for another title run. However, they also carry the third-highest dead money total in the league this year ($61 million) and are projected to be near the top again in 2025.
Goedert, a dependable tight end entering his seventh year, has consistently delivered—averaging 747 yards and four touchdowns per 17 games—but hasn’t reached elite status. He recently restructured his contract, lowering his base salary to $1.2 million with a $10.7 million cap hit, which may complicate trade possibilities. While the odds of a trade happening aren’t high, this could be Goedert’s last season in Philadelphia. He would surely relish the chance to win another Super Bowl before moving on. In any case, the Jets have reason to explore what it might take to bring him aboard.
