Green Bay Packers Set to Make Shocking Trade Before 2025 NFL Season

Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers are entering the 2025 NFL season with one mission: winning the Super Bowl. For this team, anything less will be considered a disappointment.

Since parting ways with future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the Packers have reached the playoffs in both seasons. Still, they’ve fallen short of achieving the ultimate prize.

Jordan Love has flashed elite potential, but his 2024 campaign was derailed by a Week 1 injury that kept him from finding his rhythm. Malik Willis stepped in and performed admirably in Love’s absence, giving the organization confidence in its quarterback depth.

Now, with the new season approaching, the Packers are being urged to explore a bold and unexpected trade that could shake things up ahead of 2025.

Green Bay Packers Urged to Make Shocking Trade Before 2025 NFL Season

FanSided’s Rucker Haringey has floated the idea that the Green Bay Packers could consider trading Malik Willis before the 2025 season kicks off.

“What should the Packers do if they receive something north of a third-round pick in exchange for Willis? That might be enough to tempt Gutekunst to roll the dice behind Love,” Haringey wrote. “The odds strongly favor Willis staying in Green Bay for another season, but his status is something to keep a close eye on.”

Quarterback-needy teams around the league will be closely evaluating their rosters during training camp and preseason, and if holes appear at the position, Willis could emerge as an attractive option on the trade market.

In 2024, Willis appeared in seven games for Green Bay, including two starts. He impressed by completing 74.1 percent of his passes for 550 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. He also added 138 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.

While keeping him as a backup to Jordan Love is a smart move, especially with Love’s injury history, a strong trade offer could be hard for GM Brian Gutekunst to ignore.

A trade remains unlikely for now, but it’s certainly a storyline worth monitoring as the 2025 season approaches.
