🏒 Wild’s #1 Prospect in Limbo as Contract Talks Stall

How much do the Minnesota Wild value Marco Rossi?

At 23 years old, Rossi is a restricted free agent heading into a contract negotiation. After limited playing time during his first two NHL seasons, he broke out in 2023-24 with 21 goals and 40 points, then improved further last season with 24 goals and 60 points, playing all 82 games in back-to-back years.

Despite his consistent production and strong defensive effort, his contract situation isn’t as straightforward as some other RFAs.

NHL insider David Pagnotta, speaking on the Sekeres & Price Show, noted there’s a notable gap between what Rossi wants and what the Wild are offering. Rossi is reportedly seeking a deal similar to teammate Matt Boldy’s seven-year, \$49 million contract.

While Rossi is a talented young player likely to continue producing around 60 points, Boldy offers more physicality and grit, especially valuable in the playoffs. At 5-foot-9, Rossi relies more on skill and agility, which might make the Wild hesitant to match Boldy’s contract terms.

The bigger priority for Minnesota is the soon-to-expire contract of star Kirill Kaprizov, who is expected to command \$12.5 to \$14 million per year in his next deal. Whether that’s negotiated during the season or offseason, keeping Kaprizov is critical.

The Wild have already locked in key players like Brock Faber, Jonas Brodin, Joel Eriksson Ek, and Boldy for the future. While retaining Rossi would be beneficial, ensuring Kaprizov remains with the team must come first.
