Contract Chaos: Wild’s Top Prospect Stuck in Ugly Standoff

Marco Rossi’s time with the Minnesota Wild increasingly looks like it could end in a trade — and now, tensions appear to be rising following a new update that suggests contract talks have hit a rough patch.

Throughout the offseason, there’s been steady speculation that the 23-year-old center could be moved, with several teams reportedly expressing interest in him.

But recent developments indicate the situation has stalled, and according to Wild insider Michael Russo, there are a few key factors behind the holdup.

According to Michael Russo, contract talks between Marco Rossi and the Minnesota Wild have been dormant for the past 3–4 weeks. When discussions did occur, the team reportedly showed little interest in meeting Rossi’s demands, with GM Bill Guerin unwilling to entertain an offer in the $6 million AAV range.

From Rossi’s side, a short-term bridge deal raises concerns of being sidelined in the postseason — a situation that already frustrated him last year. Meanwhile, the Wild are reportedly hesitant about committing long-term to a smaller forward they doubt can handle the physical grind of playoff hockey.

Rossi is coming off a career-best season, posting 24 goals and 60 points in the regular season. Still, he was demoted during Minnesota’s playoff series against the Bill Guerin, signaling a possible end to his time with the team.

Despite the signs pointing to a split, Minnesota has neither made a serious extension offer nor aggressively pursued a trade, leaving the situation murky. Rossi is eager for a long-term commitment, but unless something changes, this standoff could escalate as the new season approaches.
