Former Kansas Jayhawks standout Marcus Morris has been arrested on a felony fraud charge in Broward County, Florida. According to online booking records, Morris was taken into custody Sunday at a local airport and is currently being held without bond.
The charge—classified as “Fraud – Writing a Check with Insufficient Funds”—reportedly stems from an out-of-state case. TMZ first broke the news, though additional details remain scarce.
Morris, 35, starred at Kansas from 2008 to 2011, forming a formidable frontcourt tandem with his twin brother, Markieff. While both twins have enjoyed lengthy NBA careers, Marcus stood out in college and posted slightly better numbers at the professional level.
In response to the arrest, Markieff took to X (formerly Twitter) with a passionate defense, writing: “The wording is crazy. Damn for that amount of money they’ll embarrass you in the airport with your family. They could have came to the crib for all that.”
During his Jayhawk career, Marcus averaged 12.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists, peaking in 2010–11 when he earned Big 12 Player of the Year and Consensus Second Team All-American honors. He was selected 14th overall by the Houston Rockets in the 2011 NBA Draft and went on to play for eight different NBA teams over 13 seasons.
Across 832 NBA games, Morris averaged 12.0 points and 4.4 rebounds. With his 36th birthday approaching and legal trouble now in play, the arrest could mark the end of his time in the league, as teams may hesitate to offer another contract.
