Pirates add Big Ten foe to 2027 slate

East Carolina and Northwestern are set to meet in a non-conference football matchup on September 18, 2027, at Ryan Field, as announced by both schools on Tuesday. This game will mark ECU’s first-ever visit to Northwestern and its 10th all-time contest against a current Big Ten opponent.

The matchup becomes the third non-conference game on ECU’s 2027 slate, joining previously scheduled home games against Wake Forest on September 11 and Georgia State on September 25 at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.

“We’re excited to add a program like Northwestern to our 2027 schedule,” said ECU Athletics Director Jon Gilbert. “Continuing to face high-level non-conference teams strengthens our national profile.”

Ryan Field, located in Evanston, Illinois, just outside Chicago, is currently undergoing an \$850 million renovation, expected to be completed ahead of the 2026 season.

The game adds to ECU’s growing list of future Power Conference opponents. The Pirates are also set to face Wake Forest (home in 2027, away in 2028), N.C. State (home in 2028), Clemson (away in 2029), and South Carolina (away in 2030).

This fall, ECU will take on Power Four opponents N.C. State (away on August 28) and BYU (home on September 20).
