The Oregon Ducks have been on a hot streak in recruiting since early summer, securing another elite addition to their 2026 class. On Saturday, five-star defensive back Davon Benjamin, a top priority for Oregon, committed to the Ducks. This marks the fifth five-star commitment for coach Dan Lanning, putting Oregon on par with Alabama for the most five-star recruits nationally. Landing five five-stars in a single class would set a new record for Oregon’s program.
The Oregon Ducks’ 2026 recruiting class has grown to 17 commits with the addition of five-star cornerback Davon Benjamin, ranking No. 7 nationally per 247Sports. Benjamin, the No. 4 safety and No. 35 overall player in the 247Sports Composite Rankings, chose Oregon over finalists Washington, Texas, and Michigan.
He joins fellow five-star safety Jett Washington, four-star safety Devin Jackson, and three-star safety Xavier Lherisse, forming one of the nation’s top defensive back groups. The Ducks’ five-star commits also include offensive tackle Immanuel Iheanacho, EDGE Anthony Jones, and tight end Kendre Harrison, tying Oregon with Alabama for the most five-star recruits in the country.
Davon Benjamin is a perfect fit for Oregon’s defensive scheme, showcasing versatility to play in the box or excel in man coverage. A former track star in high school, Benjamin brings elite athleticism to the Ducks. Greg Biggins of 247Sports praised his potential for immediate impact, describing him as “the most versatile defensive back out West” who could start at corner, safety, or nickel. Biggins highlighted Benjamin’s athletic gifts, quick-twitch ability, and high compete level, predicting he could be a three-and-done college player and a high-round NFL Draft pick.
Oregon’s recent success in recruiting defensive backs has been notable, with the 2025 cycle featuring four four-star defensive backs and five-star cornerback Na’eem Offord as the standout. After a sluggish start to the 2026 recruiting cycle, with their class once ranked outside the top 25, the Ducks have surged, landing five-star talents Davon Benjamin and Anthony Jones.
This momentum has propelled Oregon’s 2026 class to No. 7 nationally, per 247Sports, under coach Dan Lanning’s leadership. With the National Early Signing Period still months away, Oregon is poised to secure a top-10 class, potentially one of Lanning’s most impactful, bolstered by Benjamin and the program’s five five-star commits.
