The Portland Trail Blazers likely wish they had made moves at last season’s trade deadline. They believed their existing roster could secure a playoff spot, but they fell short. As a result, they missed the chance to offload underperforming players, particularly Deandre Ayton, whom they ended up buying out this summer.
Trading Ayton at the deadline could have yielded some return, and the same applies to Jerami Grant, whom the Blazers have been attempting to trade this offseason.
The Lakers might be interested in trading for Trail Blazers forward Jerami Grant
Sam Amico of Hoops Hype proposes a trade that could benefit both the Los Angeles Lakers and the Portland Trail Blazers:
Trade Proposal:
- Trail Blazers receive: Rui Hachimura
- Lakers receive: Jerami Grant
This one-for-one trade would allow the Blazers to save significant salary cap space, which would be a major win for Portland. Hachimura brings reliable three-point shooting, strong defense, and solid rebounding to the Blazers. His durability is also a plus, having played 68 and 59 games over the past two seasons, compared to Grant’s less consistent availability.
For the Lakers, acquiring Grant adds a proven scorer who could thrive in a new environment. His high-level scoring ability addresses a key need for Los Angeles, especially if they prioritize offense over defense.
The Trail Blazers are still trying to trade Jerami Grant for anything of value
The Los Angeles Lakers would likely reject the proposed trade of Rui Hachimura for Jerami Grant, as they’d be hesitant to take on a player who offers only a slight upgrade while tying up their salary cap long-term. Meanwhile, the Portland Trail Blazers are eager to find a trade partner for Grant, desperate to secure any valuable return for him.
Last season, Hachimura averaged 13.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game, while Grant posted 14.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in just 47 games for Portland.
