California prospect Chadrack Mpoyi, a 6-foot-10 forward, is among three 2026 recruits scheduled for an official visit with the Gophers this week, per 247Sports.
The Gophers extended an offer to Mpoyi on July 2 following a strong summer run with All In Elite on the UAA circuit. Since June, he’s also picked up offers from UC Santa Barbara, Utah State, Utah, East Carolina, Loyola Marymount, and Cal.
Mpoyi will make the trip alongside Newman School teammates Quinn Costello and Lucas Morillo, giving Minnesota three 2026 prospects on campus this week for official visits. Head coach Niko Medved has already secured in-state pledges from Nolan Anderson and Cedric Tomes, but it’s evident the staff is still pushing hard in the upcoming high school cycle.
The Gophers’ roster currently lacks size up front, with Nehemiah Turner the lone player standing taller than 6-foot-8. Landing a prospect like Mpoyi or Costello would address that need and better prepare Minnesota for the physical battles typical of Big Ten play.
While the transfer portal has reduced the overall weight of high school recruiting, Medved and his staff continue to emphasize player development—a priority that remains important in college basketball’s new revenue-sharing era.
