Kirill Kaprizov’s massive payday appears imminent.

The Minnesota Wild superstar, entering the final year of his contract, is inching closer to securing his long-term future in Minnesota. Each new report suggests that the team and its franchise cornerstone are on the verge of striking a deal.

According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the contract could span eight years at $16 million per season — a total of $128 million. That figure would mark the highest average annual value in NHL history.

The record may not last forever, with Connor McDavid also approaching the end of his deal, but Kaprizov looks more likely to sign first and briefly set the new standard.

For the Wild, keeping Kaprizov is non-negotiable. “I don’t know how the Wild chart their path forward offensively putting the puck in the net if they don’t have Kirill Kaprizov in the fold,” insider Frank Seravalli said recently on B/R Open Ice.

Even injuries haven’t slowed his impact. Despite missing 41 games last season, Kaprizov still posted 25 goals and 31 assists in limited action. In 2022-23, a healthier year, he tallied 46 goals and 50 assists over 75 games. The season before, he set career highs with 47 goals and 61 assists.

Now 28, the former fifth-round pick has far outperformed his draft position. He’s a bona fide superstar — and the Wild seem ready to pay him like one.
