Vikings Kevin O’Connell Provides Huge Report On Prominent WR Injury

The Minnesota Vikings had an outstanding weekend, with everything on the field exceeding expectations. The defense appeared revitalized, scoring more points than it allowed. Meanwhile, Sam Darnold and Aaron Jones integrated smoothly into the offense, which continued to perform seamlessly from last season.

However, not everyone had a positive individual experience. At the forefront of the “challenging day” list was Jordan Addison, who injured his left ankle during a tackle in the third quarter. He walked to the locker room on his own, with a towel draped over his head in a display of disappointment.

Minnesota Vikings get good news on Jordan Addison injury

The following day, head coach Kevin O’Connell provided an update on Jordan Addison to the media at the TCO Performance Center in Eagan. Coach O’Connell stated that Addison is experiencing “pretty significant soreness,” but he has not yet ruled him out for this weekend’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.

While it’s clearly concerning that the Minnesota Vikings’ No. 2 wide receiver is facing “significant soreness,” the fact that he might still be available for Sunday’s game is a positive sign, especially considering the potential severity of ankle sprains.

Vikings need Addison on the field

Before leaving the game this weekend, Jordan Addison had recorded 3 receptions for 35 yards on 4 targets. In 2023, the USC standout made a significant impact in the league with 73 catches on 108 targets, totaling 943 yards and 10 touchdowns. Clearly, Addison is among the most skilled young route runners in the sport.

Vikings' WR Jordan Addison on track for Week 1, despite ankle and legal woes | Marca

In Week 1, the Vikings faced one of their less formidable opponents, the New York Giants. To truly make a statement and capture the attention of their NFL counterparts, they need to secure a victory against the 49ers in Week 2.

A win would signal to other NFC teams that the Vikings are fully committed to competing this season, rather than waiting for their future quarterback to recover from knee surgery. Having Jordan Addison on the field will be essential for achieving that goal.

With the Vikings’ offense already missing TJ Hockenson, losing WR2 Jordan Addison would make it even harder for Justin Jefferson and Aaron Jones to find open space. This could potentially lead to a regression for QB Sam Darnold if the offense becomes less effective.
