Rams Ditch Stafford, Unveil Hidden QB Gem!
The Los Angeles Rams are focusing on the future at quarterback, and in his latest mock draft, Athlon Sports’ Luke Easterling has them making an intriguing choice. With the 90th overall pick, Easterling predicts the Rams will select Tyler Shough, a veteran quarterback who has played at Oregon, Texas Tech, and Louisville throughout his seven-year college career.

Shough’s wealth of experience and refined skill set make him an appealing option for a team seeking a long-term solution at quarterback. Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 225 pounds, Shough has the ideal physical traits for an NFL pocket passer. In his final season at Louisville, he threw for 3,195 yards, 23 touchdowns, and just six interceptions, highlighting his ability to protect the ball while making big plays.
Shough’s quick release and compact throwing motion allow him to efficiently get the ball out, and his arm strength helps him zip passes to intermediate routes. Additionally, he’s demonstrated good mobility for his size, rushing for over 700 yards and 11 touchdowns during his college career, showing he can extend plays and gain crucial yards when necessary.
With Matthew Stafford nearing the end of his career, the Rams are searching for a quarterback to develop for the future. Shough’s ability to adjust his arm angles, his experience reading defenses, and his mental toughness make him a compelling option. While he may not have the hype of a first-round pick, his polished mechanics and leadership qualities could make him a steal in the third round. If given time to develop under Sean McVay’s guidance, Shough has the tools to grow into a reliable starter and help the Rams remain competitive in the years to come.
