ODU Elite Transfer Commits to East Carolina

East Carolina has bolstered its cornerback position by securing a transfer commitment from Old Dominion’s Rasheed Reason this spring. The experienced cornerback, who played under current ECU cornerbacks coach Tarron Williams at Old Dominion for two years, previously attended Diablo Valley College in California.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Reason joins a revamped ECU cornerback group that includes transfers Jordy Lowery (Western Carolina), Jonathan Akins (Maryland), and Key Crowell (UIndy), as well as promising freshman Derrion Horsley. Reason brings familiarity with Williams and significant college experience to the Pirates.

Over the past two seasons at Old Dominion, Reason recorded 82 tackles (57 solo), 11 pass breakups, and two interceptions. In 2023, he played 370 snaps, and in 2024, he logged a career-high 712 snaps, finishing with 46 tackles, one interception, four pass breakups, and three touchdowns allowed, according to Pro Football Focus.

Hailing from Vallejo, California, Reason entered the transfer portal on April 4, visited ECU over the weekend, and committed to the Pirates on Tuesday.

Reason primarily played outside cornerback for Old Dominion, with 945 of his 1,082 snaps on the perimeter over two seasons. His Pro Football Focus grades included a 53.4 defensive mark in 2023 (60.3 run defense, 52.0 coverage) and 56.5 in 2024 (61.5 run defense, 54.5 coverage). Notably, one of his best performances last season came against ECU, earning a 68.4 PFF game grade (67.4 coverage, 66.3 run defense). He also posted strong grades against Bowling Green (69.0), Texas State (67.3), Georgia Southern (66.0), and Appalachian State (65.0), where he secured his only interception of 2024.

ECU’s cornerback room has seen significant changes this offseason, with Shavon Revel drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round and Isaiah Brown-Murray transferring to Virginia Tech. Other departures include Andrew Wilson-Lamp, Dontavius Nash, Eric Fletcher, Daylyn Diston, and Keyshawn Jackson via the portal. Williams assumed the cornerbacks coaching role this spring after Jules Montinar’s departure to Oklahoma State.

The cornerback group faced a competitive spring, going up against a strong ECU passing attack. Lowery, an ex-Western Carolina All-American, along with Akins, Crowell, and returning senior Tymir Brown, saw significant time with the first team.
