Nebraska Snags 2027 Super Talent, Beating Out 4 National Powers

Nebraska Lands Elite 2027 QB Trae Taylor, Beating Out National Powers

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have secured their first commitment for the 2027 recruiting class—and it’s a big one. Four-star quarterback Trae Taylor, one of the nation’s most highly rated prospects, has chosen Nebraska over powerhouse programs Illinois, LSU, and Texas AM&.

Taylor, a 6-foot-3, 186-pound junior from Carmel Catholic High School in the Chicago suburbs, is ranked the No. 2 overall player in Illinois and the No. 35 player nationally for the 2027 class, according to the 247Sports Composite. He also holds the distinction of being the third-best quarterback in the nation in his class

The rising junior made his decision public in dramatic fashion during a live YouTube broadcast with 247Sports. Initially donning an Illinois hat, Taylor tossed it aside and revealed a Nebraska hat along with a Husker baseball jersey, signaling his commitment to head coach Matt Rhule and his staff.

Taylor credited Nebraska’s coaching staff—specifically Rhule and quarterbacks coach Glenn Thomas—for making a major impact during the recruiting process.

“Coach Rhule and Coach Thomas have been real and honest from the beginning,” Taylor said. “I believe they can help develop me both on and off the field and prepare me for the next level—the NFL. I also think Nebraska has the best fans in the country.

247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins described Taylor as a “cerebral quarterback” who thrives in structure but can also extend plays under pressure. Despite a losing record in his first season as a starter, Taylor’s film reveals a strong, accurate passer who racked up more than 3,000 yards through the air.

With Taylor’s commitment, Nebraska continues to build a promising future at quarterback. The room is already led by sophomore starter Dylan Raiola, supported by redshirt freshman Marcos Davila and true freshman TJ Lateef—both former four-star recruits. Additionally, the Huskers have a 2026 pledge in Dayton Raiola, giving them back-to-back quarterback talent in the pipeline.

Taylor marks the first recruit for Nebraska’s 2027 class, and his commitment signals a strong start to what could be another impactful recruiting cycle under Coach Rhule’s leadership.
