The Pittsburgh Steelers are still waiting on Aaron Rodgers to announce his plans, but another quarterback — former Dolphins and Ravens QB Tyler Huntley — remains an intriguing free-agent option.

With Tua Tagovailoa locked in as the starter in Miami, the Dolphins added Zach Wilson in free agency and drafted Quinn Ewers in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft. That left Tyler Huntley, a 2022 Pro Bowler, without a team.

According to CBS Sports’ Bryan DeArdo, Huntley could be the Steelers’ top fallback option if Rodgers declines to join Pittsburgh. DeArdo points out that Huntley has shown flashes of dual-threat ability across his 15 career starts, often keeping his team competitive. However, his ball security has been an issue — he has 13 touchdowns to 11 interceptions, along with 15 fumbles, one of which resulted in a season-ending defensive touchdown in the 2022 playoffs against Cincinnati.

Despite his inconsistencies, DeArdo believes Huntley still offers plenty of upside and could be a solid fit for Pittsburgh if Rodgers is out of the picture.

Huntley started five games for Miami in 2024 while Tagovailoa was sidelined. He went 2-3, throwing for 829 yards, 3 touchdowns, 3 interceptions, and an 80.1 passer rating, while also running for two touchdowns.

Although switching from Rodgers to Huntley would be a surprising move, the unpredictable nature of the NFL means anything is possible.
