Michigan State Continues to Build Secondary Depth Through Transfer Portal
Michigan State added another piece to its defensive backfield on Tuesday, as East Carolina defensive back Dontavius Nash announced via social media that he’s committing to the Spartans.

Nash, a former four-star recruit who started his college career at North Carolina, has logged 60 total tackles and two interceptions over 33 games. He becomes the third defensive back to join Michigan State during the spring transfer period, following Anthony Pinnace, a former JUCO All-American, and Tracy Revels from Bowling Green.
Standing at 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, Nash hails from North Carolina. He played in 10 games across two seasons with the Tar Heels before transferring to East Carolina in 2023. There, he posted a career-high 34 tackles and returned an interception for a touchdown. Last season, he added 24 tackles, another interception, and four pass breakups.
While the Spartans return starting safeties Nikai Martinez and Malik Spencer, they’ve been actively reshaping the secondary through the transfer portal. Nash is now the sixth scholarship player Michigan State has added this spring, joining Pinnace, Revels, edge rushers Isaac Smith (Texas Tech) and Cam Williams (Georgia State), and tight end Kai Rios (Indiana State).
