Minnesota Lands In-State Commitment from East Ridge Star

Minnesota men’s basketball head coach Niko Medved has landed his first high school recruit since taking over the Golden Gophers program. On Saturday, in-state point guard Cedric Tomes from East Ridge High School announced his commitment to the Gophers.

Tomes chose Minnesota over offers from schools including Bryant, Oklahoma, Drake, Northern Illinois, and Iowa State. Minnesota was the first to offer Tomes back when Ben Johnson was head coach, and even after the coaching transition, the program continued to prioritize him.

During his junior year, Tomes was named the Suburban East Conference Player of the Year after leading East Ridge to a 19-8 record. He averaged 27.3 points per game, according to the Star Tribune.

Tomes also competes on the D1 Minnesota 17U team, where he plays alongside Dothan Ijadimbola, Max Iversen, Barbocarr Ann, Ryan Kreager, Jaidyn Coon, Christian Wiggins, Jack Thelen, and Nolen Anderson.
