Minnesota secured a late commitment on Friday from Maryland guard Chance Stephens, but Niko Medved may still be active in the transfer portal as he looks to finalize his 2025–26 roster.
Per a post on X by The Athletic’s Tobias Bass on Thursday, the Gophers are among 11 programs that have reached out to Cal State Fullerton transfer guard Donovan Oday.
Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 185 pounds, Donovan Oday averaged 12.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game last season for Cal State Fullerton, posting shooting splits of 42.2% from the field, 31.0% from three, and 76.3% from the free-throw line. He began his college career at McNeese and has one year of eligibility remaining.
With Chance Stephens now in the fold, Minnesota has five players classified as either point guards or shooting guards, making a potential addition like Oday somewhat redundant. However, it does highlight that the Gophers remain active in the portal.
While it’s unlikely that the interest in Oday will progress much beyond the initial contact noted by Tobias Bass, Niko Medved and his staff are clearly exploring every possible option. With three open roster spots remaining, adding frontcourt depth and reliable shooting may be more pressing priorities.
