Ravens Safety Ar’Darius Washington Suffers Torn Achilles, 2025 Season in Doubt

Baltimore Ravens safety Ar’Darius Washington has suffered a torn Achilles during conditioning workouts, a source confirmed to ESPN — casting serious doubt on his availability for the 2025 season.
Washington was coming off a breakout year, starting a career-high 12 games (including playoffs) and becoming a key part of Baltimore’s secondary. Despite the Ravens selecting safety Malaki Starks in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Washington was still expected to have a major role on defense.
Undrafted in 2021, Washington has defied early injury setbacks and questions about his size (5’8″, 180 pounds) to become a standout contributor. He stabilized Baltimore’s secondary in 2024, stepping in for Marcus Williams in Week 8. Over the final 10 games with Washington starting, the Ravens held opponents to just 214 passing yards per game — the eighth-best mark in the NFL during that span.
At age 25, Washington posted career highs last season with 64 tackles, two interceptions, and eight passes defensed. He made several game-changing plays, including a forced fumble against Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson in Week 16 and a crucial fourth-down stop on Joe Mixon in Week 17.
Washington had just signed his restricted free agent tender on April 21, securing a $3.263 million salary for the 2025 season.
This marks the third major injury of his career: a foot injury ended his 2021 season prematurely, and a chest injury sidelined him for nearly all of 2023.
NFL Network was first to report the Achilles injury.
