On Wednesday, the Gophers women’s hockey team received major news with the announcement that All-American forward Abbey Murphy will return for the 2025-26 season.
Gophers head coach Brad Frost expressed his excitement about Abbey Murphy’s decision to return, stating, “We are thrilled Murph is back. She’s a cornerstone of our program and women’s hockey globally. Her presence elevates our team and the sport.”
Murphy will enter her fifth season with the Gophers, utilizing an Olympic redshirt from the 2021-22 season, where she earned a silver medal with Team USA at the Beijing Olympics, and an extra year of eligibility granted due to COVID-19 in 2020.
In 140 career games, Murphy has amassed 195 points, ranking third among active NCAA players. Her 103 goals place her sixth in Gophers history, complemented by 92 assists.
“I’m thrilled to return for my final year of college hockey,” Murphy said. “I’m eager for another season with this team. It’s been an incredible journey, and we’re not finished yet. Go Gophers!”
Last season, Murphy was a top-10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, tallying 65 points (33 goals, 32 assists) in 42 games. She is poised to remain a leading figure in college hockey next season.
