Minnesota is currently assembling its 2025-26 nonconference basketball schedule, reportedly scheduling home games against Fairleigh Dickinson (FDU) and Alcorn State. The Gophers previously defeated FDU 74-60 at home last season, with this year’s game slated for December 29.
Like many power conference teams, Minnesota tends to face lower-tier opponents in the post-Christmas week, a quieter time in college basketball before conference play kicks off in the new year.
Fairleigh Dickinson, despite its notable 2023 NCAA Tournament upset over Purdue, competes in the Northeast Conference (NEC), one of the lowest-ranked conferences in college basketball, making their game against Minnesota at Williams Arena likely a Quad 4 matchup.
Minnesota is also set to host Alcorn State earlier in the season on November 8, 2025, during a football team bye week, potentially giving the men’s basketball team a prime opportunity to shine on a fall weekend.
Alcorn State, like Fairleigh Dickinson, plays in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), consistently one of the weakest conferences in college basketball, ensuring their game against Minnesota will likely be a Quad 4 matchup. The game will mark the debut season for Alcorn State’s new head coach, Jake Morton, following Landon Bussie’s departure to Chicago State this offseason.
