Showing Yurov Deserves the Deal he Signs
Over three KHL seasons, Danila Yurov proved his talent, amassing 41 goals and 47 assists for 88 points in 209 games. His standout 2023-24 season saw him score 21 goals and 28 assists for 49 points, setting a KHL record for a 20-year-old, surpassing Vladimir Tarasenko. That year, he also contributed six goals and three assists to help Metallurg Magnitogorsk win the 2023-24 Gagarin Cup. A lower-body injury in 2024-25 limited him to 13 goals and 12 assists for 25 points.
Despite no North American experience, Yurov is a strong contender to make the Minnesota Wild roster out of training camp. He’s likely to slot into the bottom six as a third- or fourth-line right winger and could earn a spot on the second penalty-kill unit to boost his ice time. Long-term, Yurov could replace Mats Zuccarello, a key top-six forward since 2018-19. With Zuccarello’s contract nearing its end and his age at 37, Yurov’s performance could fill the gap if Zuccarello departs.
