East Carolina’s football team has bolstered its offensive line by securing a commitment from Jeremiah Williams, a prospect from Hutchinson Community College. The 6-foot-4, 315-pound lineman caught ECU’s attention during spring evaluations as the Pirates sought to deepen their offensive line roster by scouting junior college talent. Williams visited ECU officially and committed before concluding his trip.
A redshirt freshman with three years of eligibility remaining, Williams had considered playing another season at Hutchinson in Kansas before opting to advance to a higher level. ECU was his only FBS offer, though he also took official visits to Alabama A&M, Indiana State, and East Tennessee State.
Williams will join East Carolina this summer, adding depth to an offensive line focused on enhancing versatility behind its starters and fostering long-term player development. At Hutchinson, Williams showed flexibility, playing both guard and tackle on either side of the line. He is expected to begin as a guard for ECU, with his final position to be determined upon arrival.
Jeremiah Williams, a native of Edgefield, South Carolina, played high school football at Strom Thurmond before joining Hutchinson Community College. East Carolina has further strengthened its offensive line this offseason with three transfer portal additions: Dru McClough from Presbyterian, Cooper Trnavsky from Newberry College, and Kyle Long from Maryland.
McClough committed this summer, while Trnavsky and Long participated in spring practice. The Pirates faced a setback when projected starting center Karson Jones suffered a potentially season-ending knee injury during spring practice, prompting positional adjustments in March and April.
Offensive line coach Matt Mattox returns for his second season with ECU, working under head coach Blake Harrell and second-year offensive coordinator John David Baker. Last season, ECU finished 8-5, defeating NC State 26-21 in the Military Bowl. The Pirates will kick off the upcoming season on August 28, facing NC State again, this time at Carter-Finley Stadium.
