On June 14, Caitlin Clark returned to action in the Indiana Fever’s game against the New York Liberty, her first regular-season appearance in 19 days after a left quad strain sustained during a May 24 loss to the same team. That game was part of a grueling stretch, with Indiana playing three games in five days, raising concerns about Clark’s durability, especially given her limited preseason participation.
With a demanding schedule ahead, including four games between June 16 and June 24, the Fever are prioritizing Clark’s health to prevent injury setbacks. Head coach Stephanie White, speaking to the media on June 16, emphasized managing workloads: “You’re about to play a lot of games in a short period of time. So it’s about mentally being efficient in reps, while not [having] physically taxing practices,” as shared in a video on the Fever’s YouTube channel.
When asked about Clark and Sophie Cunningham’s recovery after their return, White noted, “So far, so good. We’ve got a lot of games in a short period right now, so we’re making sure we’re managing [their workloads] to avoid setbacks.” This suggests the Fever will focus on less intense practices and possibly monitor Clark and Cunningham’s minutes to reduce the risk of re-injury during this busy stretch.
