Michigan State is making major waves on the recruiting trail.
The Spartans have secured a commitment from 2026 four-star wide receiver Tyren Wortham out of Sarasota, Florida. Wortham, who was previously committed to UCF, has now pledged to Michigan State, according to a report by On3‘s Hayes Fawcett.
Michigan State continues to dominate on the recruiting trail, adding another major win with the commitment of 2026 four-star wide receiver Tyren Wortham from Sarasota, Florida. Wortham, a former UCF commit, also took official visits to Georgia and Kansas State before choosing the Spartans. His decision was first reported by On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Wortham is rated as the No. 387 overall prospect in the 2026 class, the No. 57 player in Florida, and the No. 59 wide receiver nationally. He made his official visit to East Lansing over the weekend, and Michigan State’s staff clearly made a strong impression.
Landing a Florida recruit from a Sunshine State program is no small feat, and it highlights the strength of Michigan State’s recruiting pitch under the current staff. Wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins has been relentless in his pursuit of elite talent, and Wortham is the latest high-upside addition to the Spartans’ receiver room.
This surge in recruiting momentum aligns with new Athletic Director J Batt’s vision of elevating Michigan State football to elite status as part of a broader push to strengthen the entire athletic department.
Wortham joins a string of recent offensive additions, including wide receiver Zachary Washington and four-star tight end Edward Whiting. The Spartans have also heavily targeted standout WR Samson Gash. The trend suggests Michigan State is not slowing down anytime soon.
A dynamic multi-sport athlete, Wortham also competes in track and field. His 11.32-second 100-yard dash roughly equates to a 4.7-second 40-yard dash. On the field, his junior season stats were electric — 67 receptions for 1,360 yards and 17 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 20.3 yards per catch. His performance earned him the Wide Receiver MVP at the 2025 Under Armour Next Camp in Orlando.
Wortham, alongside Washington, brings explosive potential to East Lansing and could serve as a strong complement to star wideout Nick Marsh. With the way the Spartans are recruiting right now, this might just be the beginning.
