The Minnesota Wild have traded center Freddy Gaudreau to the Seattle Kraken in exchange for draft compensation, the team announced Thursday.

Gaudreau, who posted 37 points (18 goals, 19 assists) last season, originally joined the Wild as a free agent in 2021. Over four seasons in Minnesota, he recorded 56 goals and 78 assists.

The trade sheds the remaining three years of Gaudreau’s contract, which carried a $2.1 million annual cap hit. The move leaves the Wild with approximately $17.7 million in cap space.

In return, Minnesota received a fourth-round pick (No. 102 overall) in this weekend’s NHL Draft. The team may remain active this offseason, with reports suggesting Marco Rossi is being shopped as they look to reshape a roster aiming to advance past the first round of the playoffs for the first time since 2014–15.
