Timberwolves Unleash New Era with Blockbuster Ownership Change

On Friday afternoon in Las Vegas, Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez held a live press conference to officially introduce themselves as the new owners of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx.

One of their priorities moving forward will be evaluating the future of the team’s arena. Despite recent upgrades, the Target Center is now 35 years old and considered outdated by modern professional sports standards.

“To compete at the level we’re aiming for every year, our fans deserve a new arena,” said Rodriguez. “We’re still in the very early phases. We’ve put in a lot of work over the past three years, and building an arena in Minneapolis would be incredible for our fans.”

The event took place at the Strip View Pavilion in Las Vegas, coinciding with the ongoing NBA Summer League.

A Board of Governors meeting is also set for early next week in Las Vegas, where NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is expected to announce that the league will officially begin exploring expansion — though no final decision on adding new teams has been made.

Lore and Rodriguez secured ownership of the franchises after purchasing them for \$1.5 billion, following an extended legal dispute with former owner Glen Taylor.

Under their new leadership structure, Lore will serve as Timberwolves Governor and Rodriguez as Alternate Governor. For the Lynx, Rodriguez will take on the Governor role, with Lore acting as the Alternate Governor.
