The Gophers have officially joined the pursuit of four-star shooting guard/wing Lucas Morillo, one of the fastest-rising prospects in the 2026 class.
Morillo, a 6-foot-6 wing from The Newman School in Boston, put himself on the national radar with a strong showing for the Dominican Republic at the FIBA U-19 World Cup, where he averaged 20.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.4 steals per game this summer.
Minnesota becomes the latest program to offer the talented wing, adding their name to an impressive list that includes Illinois, Marquette, NC State, Ole Miss, Stanford, UCLA, Virginia, and Virginia Tech. Since making his debut at No. 123 on 247Sports’ composite rankings in June, Morillo has surged to No. 62 nationally.
The Gophers, led by Niko Medved, currently have just one commitment in their 2026 class—three-star point guard Cedric Tomes out of East Ridge. They’ve also extended offers to in-state standouts Nolen Anderson (Wayzata), Jayden Moore (Hopkins), and Boston-based four-star big man Quinn Costell.
Landing Morillo would be a major win for Minnesota, though they’ll face stiff competition for his commitment.
