EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings announced Thursday they’ve added veteran offensive lineman Matt Nelson to the roster.
To clear space, Minnesota waived rookie defensive lineman Alexander Williams with an injury designation.
Nelson, who played college football at Iowa, entered the NFL in 2019 as an undrafted free agent with the Detroit Lions. He went on to appear in 43 games — including 14 starts — for Detroit between 2020 and 2023. His most active season came in 2021, when he started 11 games, primarily at right tackle.
A Cedar Rapids native, Nelson briefly joined the New York Giants in March 2024 but was released during final cuts in August.
Williams had signed with the Vikings as an undrafted rookie free agent in May
