Lakeville, Minnesota native Gunnar Conboy announced his verbal commitment to the University of Minnesota hockey program on Friday through an Instagram post.
“I’m incredibly proud and honored to commit to playing Division I hockey at the University of Minnesota,” Conboy wrote. “Thank you to my family, friends, and everyone who has supported me along the way. Excited for what’s ahead. #gogophs 〽️〽️”
Although Conboy is still a few years away from suiting up in NCAA hockey, Friday marked the first day players born in 2009 could officially commit to college programs — and he didn’t hesitate to announce he’d be staying close to home with the Gophers.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound forward spent two seasons at Lakeville North High School, where he racked up 37 goals and 29 assists across 53 games. He has also signed a USHL tender with the Green Bay Gamblers and is expected to join them for the 2025–26 season.
