Minnesota Wild future star? Prospect Adams Benak steal the show at Tom Kurvers showcase 2025

The Minnesota Wild may have found their next fan favorite in forward prospect Adams Benak, who lit up the annual Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase this weekend with an eye-catching performance that had scouts, fans, and team executives buzzing about his potential.

Benak, 19, was the clear standout during the Wild’s series of games against the Chicago Blackhawks’ top prospects. Displaying a rare blend of speed, vision, and offensive creativity, the young forward notched two goals and three assists across the two-day event, including a dazzling end-to-end rush that drew a standing ovation from the Xcel Energy Center crowd.

“I just tried to play my game and not overthink things,” Benak said after Sunday’s finale. “It’s a big honor to wear the Wild jersey, even in a showcase. I want to prove I can be part of this team’s future.”

The Tom Kurvers Showcase, named in honor of the late Wild executive, has become a key preseason measuring stick for Minnesota’s developmental system. While several players had strong showings, Benak’s ability to dominate shifts and create scoring chances stood out above the rest.

Wild head coach John Hynes praised the youngster’s effort but urged caution. “He’s an exciting player, no doubt about it,” Hynes said. “But the goal is steady progress. Showcases are a good step, and now it’s about how he carries this into training camp and beyond.”

Still, fans are already buzzing about the possibility of seeing Benak in a Wild sweater sooner rather than later. With the organization placing a premium on developing homegrown talent, his emergence could be a key storyline heading into the 2025–26 season.

For now, one thing is certain: Adams Benak made the most of his moment, and in doing so, he might have given Minnesota a glimpse of its future.
