Minnesota Golden Gophers Biggest Concern After Week 3 of the 2025 Season
The Minnesota Golden Gophers find themselves at an early-season crossroads following Week 3 of the 2025 campaign. While the team has shown flashes of promise, one concern continues to overshadow their progress — consistency on offense.
Through three weeks, Minnesota has struggled to establish rhythm in key moments. The running game, traditionally the backbone of the program, hasn’t found its usual dominance, leaving the passing attack to shoulder more of the load. Quarterback play has been up and down, with moments of efficiency offset by stalled drives and costly turnovers.
Equally troubling is the offensive line’s performance. Protection issues have limited explosive plays, and the lack of push up front has kept the rushing attack from opening games as strongly as fans have come to expect. Without improvement in the trenches, Minnesota risks falling behind in a competitive Big Ten schedule.
Defensively, the Gophers have kept them competitive, showing resilience against both the run and the pass. But the defense can only hold up for so long without consistent support from the offense.
Head coach P.J. Fleck has emphasized growth and execution as the team heads into conference play. If Minnesota wants to compete at the top of the Big Ten West, finding balance and rhythm on offense will be critical. Week 3 served as a reminder: the Gophers’ biggest challenge isn’t talent, but turning that talent into sustained production.
