Gophers Snag California’s Elite Big Man For 2026 Class

The Gophers secured a new pledge Thursday night from three-star California forward Chadrack Mpoyi, marking their third verbal commitment in the 2026 recruiting class.

On Instagram, Mpoyi celebrated the decision with the caption: “Next chapter 💛♥️ #goldgophers #committed.”

Standing 6-foot-10, Chadrack Mpoyi drew Minnesota’s attention after a strong AAU run with All In Elite on the UAA circuit, earning an offer from the Gophers on July 2. Since June, he’s also picked up interest from programs such as UC Santa Barbara, Utah State, Utah, East Carolina, Loyola Marymount, and Cal.

Mpoyi was among three 2026 prospects who took official visits to Minnesota during the Gophers’ football season opener. Of that group, Quinn Costello committed to Michigan earlier this week, while Lucas Morillo remains undecided. Mpoyi also took officials to UC Santa Barbara, Oregon State, and Utah State before choosing the Gophers.

With Minnesota’s current roster featuring only one player taller than 6-foot-8 — Nehemiah Turner — Mpoyi provides a much-needed developmental piece in the frontcourt. Ranked No. 151 overall in the 2026 class by 247Sports Composite, he brings upside the staff believes they can build on.

He joins in-state recruits Nolen Anderson (Wayzata) and Cedric Tomes (East Ridge) to give the Gophers three early verbal commitments in the 2026 class. With that trio on board, Minnesota’s group currently sits at No. 6 nationally, according to 247Sports.
